"Viruses, pollutants and air quality: how to manage the risks?"
(IN FRENCH)
In October 2019, France was condemned by Europe for failing to comply with air quality limit values for nitrogen dioxide (NO2). The European Court of Justice called for a rapid and effective action plan to drastically reduce emissions of this pollutant and protect French citizens. Since then, the health crisis we are experiencing has further reinforced the importance of air quality issues. While confinement has led to a marked improvement in the concentrations of certain pollutants in many cities around the world, several scientific studies have shown a correlation between air pollution and increased risks of virus-related mortality. Moreover, the Covid-19 crisis is also a reminder of the challenges of controlling air quality inside buildings, where we spend most of our time.
When it comes to air quality, we face many questions: What are the links between air pollution and the spread of the virus? Will there be a longterm positive impact of confinement on air quality? Why is the measurement of air quality, both outside and inside buildings, crucial?
To discuss it:
- Karine Léger, Managing Director of AirParif, the independent observatory in charge of monitoring and information on air quality in the Ile-de-France region. It brings together the State, local authorities, economic players and associations and has been working for 40 years to improve air quality in Ile-de-France.

He is involved in numerous committees and working groups for the prevention of air pollution and clean room contamination, air environment professions, etc. He has published numerous articles and books on air and water quality.

He has been working in the field of air quality for 25 years. Today, faced with major health issues and growing societal demand, he is helping to implement solutions and innovations to guarantee quality air in an emerging market worldwide.
